Shogun Season 2 Storyline

Keep in mind, Season 1 of Shogun has ended its story quite satisfactorily. The series, adapted from James Clavell's novel of the same name, has depicted the journey of John Blackthorne (played by Hiroyuki Sanada), a British pilot stranded in Japan. He is drawn into a complicated political maelstrom involving Lord Toranaga (Kosugi Isao), an ambitious daimyo, and Lady Mariko (Anna Sawai), an intelligent woman who holds an important but complicated position in a noble family.

Although Season 1 looks final, the producers haven't closed the door for the continuation of the story. Screenwriter Justin Marks revealed that there were no serious discussions about Season 2 during the production of Season 1.

Thus, there are two possibilities for Season 2. First, the story could be (chuangyuan, original), aka composed without reference to the original novel. This option gives the writers creative freedom to explore Blackthorne's future in Japan. Will he increasingly adapt to the local culture and become a samurai like William Adams, the English navigator who inspired Blackthorne's character?
