H5N1 Outbreak in Dairy Cattle Linked to Bird Flu Cases

This is the third human case of H5N1 reported in the United States. A man in Texas who worked on a dairy farm was infected there at the start of the outbreak.

The first case in this country, in spring 2022, was in a man in Colorado who was involved in culling H5N1-infected birds in a poultry outbreak there.

"Farm workers who have been exposed to affected animals have been asked to report even mild symptoms, and virus testing is available," Natasha Bagdasarian, the state's chief medical executive, said in a statement.

"The current health risk to the general public remains low," she added. "The virus is being closely monitored, and we have not seen any signs of sustained human-to-human transmission at this point. This is how public health should work, in the early detection and monitoring of new and emerging diseases."

The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said that the nasal swab taken from the farm worker in Michigan was negative for flu.

However, the person's eye swab was sent to the CDC, and it came back positive for the H5 flu virus, although final confirmation that the virus is the H5N1 subtype is still pending genetic sequencing. These were the only symptoms the person experienced, the CDC said.

That's a brief discussion that we can convey about the news of the H5N1 case. Hope you find it useful.
